Background & Purpose of the Job

The Associate International Logistics UNASW Manager oversee all import and export activities for the Mexican factory, including shipments coordination, managing customs clearance processes, and ensuring compliance with international trade regulations.

Is the main point of contact to everything related to imports of raw, package materials and machinery sourced into Mexico (UNASW), necessary to produce and export finished goods to the United States and Canada (UNASCC) and for the export of those finish goods.

The role acts as a gate keeper managing the southbound and northbound flow of goods at the MX-US border and different ports and airports within Mexico. The Associate International Logistics Manager works together with Customs Brokers to comply with all local regulations, leverages our planning, transportation, and warehousing teams to assist in moving our products across in a timely, efficient manner. The Associate International Logistics Manager also work with finance and operations teams to support the proper application of special programs and economic incentive programs such as: CTPAT, IMMEX, PROSEC, AEO VAT, etc.

Who You Are & What You’ll Do

  • Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, and other logistics partners to ensure timely and cost-effective transportation of goods.
  • Work closely with internal teams to optimize inventory levels, minimize stockouts and excess inventory, and ensure efficient use of warehouse space.
  • Enable the customs clearance of the import of raw and packaging material into Mexico and export of finished goods to the US.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of all import and export documentation, including commercial invoices, packing lists, COO and shipping documents. Maintain compliance with customs regulations and international trade laws.
  • Apply for Import Permits and other necessary documentation in support of the above product flow with Mexican Government agencies such as SAT, SENER, SE and Others.
  • Assist with the establishing of Importer of Record credentials for new production facility.
  • Manage operational relationship with Customs Brokers
  • Coordinate with planning on compliance requirements for new product innovations.
  • Issue advance notice on regulatory changes that could impact material or product flow.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce transportation costs, optimize shipping routes, and negotiate favorable freight rates with carriers and logistics providers.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve logistics processes and procedures to enhance efficiency, reduce lead times, and improve overall supply chain performance.
  • Identify potential risks and disruptions in the supply chain and develop strategies to mitigate these risks, such as implementing contingency plans and diversifying transportation routes.
  • Serve as a Key-Liaison between Cross Functional team such as: Manufacturing, Customer Service, Transportation and Planning.

You’re a constant observer:   You will continuously evaluate our Mexico imports-exports to identify gaps in processes and can quickly make decisions on your own in the best interests of all parties. To do this you will need an inquisitive mindset that is able to proactively identify compliance risks and engage stakeholders to gather the support needed to enable the logistics movements of these goods.

You’re a leader: You like to take the lead and are comfortable in providing direction to 3rd party suppliers – leading calls as needed, providing clear, consistent direction and documentation, managing controls, etc

You’re a dot connector: With an innate sense of how things interlock, you will be able to bridge the needs of different functions and expertly translate the requirements to keep the value chain in sync.

You’re a team player: You understand your role as a part of the NA Supply Chain working in a brand new factory, but can appreciate the bigger picture of the Unilever Global Supply Chain.

What You’ll Need To Succeed

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, International Business, Commerce, Foreing Trade, Business Administration or related fields.                            
  • 5 or more years combined experience in International Logistics with a focus in import/export operations in Mexico.
  • Licensed Customs Broker, Certified Customs Specialist, or equivalent certifications is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of customs regulations, trade compliance (IMMEX, PROSEC, CIVA, R 8va), and international shipping processes.
  • Operational, logistical and regulatory knowledge for moving and handling of oversized cargoes.
  • Supply chain security expertise (CTPAT & AEO).
  • Clear demonstration of leadership, team commitment, influencing and holding others accountable
  • Proficiency in logistics software and system, such as ERP, TMS, WMS (SAP, Coupa, Edicom) and other related software such as Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Strong knowledge of the use of machinery and production lines for import strategies and logistics coordination.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English required.
