The Technology Manager – Pack will be responsible for project management and support for the Supply Chain elements of business critical projects on a global scale covering Innovation, Capability, and VIP. This will include supporting the development of technology strategies and packing machinery logic and developing convergence plans for the ‘core’ technologies.
Development of aligned machinery specifications will be a key element of the role. The role holder will provide analytical support in defining optimum technology criteria. They will also be responsible for developing and maintaining audit protocols for technology/supplier evaluation as well as providing effective engagement with a number of internal and sometimes external stakeholders. Additional responsibility for supporting benchmarking and cost modelling based on understanding of conversion cost drivers.
Key Accountabilities:

- Become the SC representative on Project Core teams for major projects.
- Facilitate/co-ordinate Packaging Technology support to agreed innovation projects (through diverse functional networks) facilitating the development of agreed common solutions when new machinery is required using Best Practice Tools and Processes (EPM, Qii , Project Management).
- Generate capital estimates and detailed trial and installation programmes for the packaging areas within project portfolio.
- Driving the machinery convergence programme within agreed technology platforms including maintaining a database of best practice machinery, suppliers and packing hall configurations using an agreed medium of sharing. In addition identifying areas of synergy and leveraging best practice and scale.
- Develop New Packaging Machinery Technology solutions in response to Strategy assessing fit/impact with current operations.
- Undertake technology supplier evaluations in support of defining the technology supply base including scouting for New Packaging technologies which will provide competitive advantage to Unilever or strengthen our Global Technology Portfolio.
- Collecting technology relevant supply market intelligence including the generation of testing protocols to aid technology and supplier evaluation.
- Supporting the development and maintenance of supplier benchmarking, based on an understanding of conversion cost drivers and technologies including cost modelling of machine/material solutions.
- Management of global suppliers, evaluating the impact of their technology on their supply to Unilever, supporting/encouraging improvements/changes as appropriate
- Knowledge management of Packaging Machinery ensuring Best Practice is effectively documented and transferred across regions and factories. This should be completed via the development of “live” machinery specifications and technology transfer documents
- Develop understanding of the machine/material interfaces, ensuring optimum solutions are delivered.
- Carrying out SC scenario modelling in support of Strategy.
- Support Packaging Machinery skills development.

Experience Required:

ESSENTIAL
- Engineering degree educated or equivalent experience
- Good Knowledge of Packaging Technology / Equipment associated with an FMCG company.
- Knowledge and experience in Quality in Innovation for Manufacturing including statistical analysis, supplier assessment and capabilities, risk assessments for raw materials / packing materials / formulations and validation of in –house and co-making operations
- Able to prepare machine/ process stream specifications and machinery project management networks.
- Good understanding of the materials conversion processes
